Mediterranean hotspot Mallorca is the place to be seen at the moment if you’re a mogul with a flashy megayacht. Hollywood tycoon David Geffen recently arrived in his new $300 million toy, the 376-ft. Pelorus (above), purchased from a certain Roman Abramovich a couple months back. Geffen now owns two megayachts ranking among the top 20 largest yachts in the world, having bought out Larry Ellison’s share in the 453-ft. Rising Sun in 2010. The Pelorus boasts two helicopter pads, a swimming pool, a spa pool, and an owner’s suite with 180-degree panoramic views and a private deck.
Pretty impressive – but as it happens Geffen was upstaged by another billionaire, Russian oligarch Andrey Melnichenko, who arrived in Mallorca aboard his stunning Philippe Starck-designed megayacht, ‘A’. At 390 feet it’s bigger than the Pelorus, ranking as the 15th largest yacht in the world. Powering in from Ibiza the ‘A’ immediately eclipsed Geffen’s vessel thanks to its striking design, no easy feat. Inside the ‘A’ is no less impressive. The interior features $40,000 bath faucets, $60,000 stair banisters, and an all-white, 2,583-sq.-ft. master suite wrapped in bulletproof glass accessed by a silver-plated staircase with a fingerprint scanner at the door.
