The Monaco Yacht Show marked the end of a successful summer season for J Craft as the team retailed a standard Torpedo model within the first 24-hours of the glamorous
four-day event. However, the autumn weather has done little to dampen customer enthusiasm for the brand and since Monaco, J Craft has retailed a further three boats; 2 standard Torpedo’s and 1 Torpedo R.

A number of forward orders for 2011 boats have also been taken. The J Craft Torpedo was officially launched at the 2009 Monaco Yacht Show and it was followed a year later by the Torpedo R, offering higher specification and increased power. Both models have proved popular, finding buyers in the Middle East and throughout the Mediterranean. In 2011, J Craft entered the North American market where they attended the Miami Boat Show. Speaking about the brands growing reputation, J Craft’s Johan Attvik said, “The Torpedo is an incredibly stylish and luxurious product that delivers on every promise. It is a perfect combination of effortless glamour and cutting edge technology and it is as robust and reliable as it is beautiful and cosseting. As we retail more boats, so we have more brand ambassadors and our reputation grows again.”

The Torpedo combines a fiberglass hull with a traditional mahogany topside and interior. The boat has an open cockpit with rear sun pad that runs back to the tumblehome transom. An aerial view of the boat is a classic figure-eight shape. But the Torpedo R is more than just a smart compilation of lines and curves.

The boat ran well in the swell outside the harbor in Monte Carlo and would make a fine tender for most of the megayachts at anchor. The joystick control of the IPS engines also made it a breeze to dock in tight quarters.

With a draft of just over 3m (9.8ft), the Hemisphere yacht boasts an ease of manoeuvrability and the scope to cruise shallow draft destinations inaccessible to monohulls of comparable size which is great news for luxury yacht charter guests being able to anchor close to secluded bays and beaches.

Hemisphere’s decks and rig are remarkably uncluttered as visible deck hardware has been minimised and the 58m (190ft) high mast soars free of spreaders with all lines run internally. Tenders are also stowed out of sight and the port transom houses a full watersports and dive locker served by a large hydraulic swim platform.

Destined for the luxury charter market in tropical climates, superyacht Hemisphere boasts a spacious flybridge with jacuzzi, sunpads and shaded dining along with a vast indoor/outdoor living area on the main deck. The relaxed and elegant interior by Michael Leach Designs is the epitome of contemporary chic and the yacht’s exceptional volume offers a high degree of luxury. The yachts dark wood floors are offset by a soothing neutral colour palette with countless customised touches such as seventeen different types of granite and sixteen leather finishes, creating an ‘island living meets deluxe Pacific Rim ambience’. Megayacht Hemisphere’s inaugural season was this past summer and was enjoyed by her owners in the Mediterranean however she will be available to Privé International members for luxury yacht charters this winter in the Caribbean with charter rates starting at EUR 175,000 per week. Following this, she will transit the Panama Canal into the South Pacific for summer 2012. Conceptualised and built for cruising the tropics, the Hemisphere yacht is certain to set a new benchmark for luxury charters in some of the most exotic locations on the planet.

The CXL concept is the brain child of Jean-François Ruchonnet, founding partner of Ultraluxum, a Monaco-based yacht design firm and was developed by designer Jean-Jacques Coste of Coste Design & Partners. With a length of 48 metres, the sloop-rigged trimaran could become the largest multihull superyacht in the world.

The concept’s main innovation is its folding hull beams, which can reduce its overall width from 23 metres in a sailing configuration to 11 metres in harbour configuration. Seen on small boats in the 1970s this is not a new idea, but it is a first for a trimaran of this size, with the dual benefits of comfortable stability at sea with no heeling and easy access to harbours and marinas.

Bureau Veritas classed, the CXL will be built in sandwich epoxy resin and carbon fibre, with an overall weight of 110 tons. She will have a 55 metre mast and a total sail area of 1,200 square metres, giving top speeds of between 20 and 25 knots. Diesel-electric propulsion will be an option, enabling her to reach 15 knots under engines, with a 40 per cent reduction in fuel consumption compared to a monohull of the same size, she is built to superyacht standards inside and out.

The triple-deck, sloop-rigged trimaran is billed as providing all the amenities of a motor yacht with the thrill of a high-speed sailing yacht. It will have a powerful rig equipped with a 55-metre, high modulus rotating carbon wing mast, a carbon furling boom and is set to be the largest sailing yacht to be equipped with folding hull beams.

The feature helps reduce beam from 23 metres to 11 metres in ‘harbour mode’.

The modern interior is equipped with state of the art domotic control and high-end entertainment system including flat screen TV, audio and video on demand, high-speed Internet access and much more.
