Location
Over Yonder Cay is the ideal place for friends and family to escape from the pressures of everyday life and relax in the comfort of your own luxury private island in the Exumas. The island lies with Sampson Cay to the south and Thomas Cay to the north, at coordinates 24.225, -76.478.

Accommodation
The four villas are distributed around the island to enhance the sense of privacy and space, while the seemingly countless activities will bring your group together, whether it is for snorkelling on the reef or a sunset dinner in the Beach Pavilion. The island accommodates up to 28 guests in the following configuration: Perched on the island’s central hilltop, Villa Fiamma sleeps eight in four rooms: the master suite and three guest suites. A few steps from the beach, Villa Acqua sleeps eight in four rooms: a master suite, a guest suite and two doubles. With dramatic ocean vistas, Villa Cielo sleeps six in four rooms: a master suite, a guest suite and two doubles. Taking in the views of both sunrise and sunset, Villa Terra sleeps six in three rooms: a master suite and two doubles. The villas are installed with satellite TV, a Kaleidescape entertainment library and Crestron control system, as well as wifi internet and iPads. A 12-seater movie theatre is located in Villa Fiamma, and all other villas have a 70-inch TV. Suites feature a 40-inch TV and ensuite bathroom; double rooms share a bathroom. The island has a unique, cutting-edge hybrid energy system and it is almost entirely powered but wind and solar energy harnessed by three wind turbines and a 1.5-acre solar field. In 2012, 96 per cent of the island’s energy came from renewable sources, and a suite of back-up generators provide power to the island if necessary.

Activities
Take your private island holiday experience to another level and create memories that will last forever with Over Yonder Cay’s incredible array of activities both on land and in the water. For activities ashore, Over Yonder Cay has a floodlit tennis court, a beach volleyball court, a fully equipped fitness centre, a 12-seater movie theatre with tiered plush seating, and game room with a pool table, ping-pong, and other arcade games. The island’s yoga instructor and masseuse provides ultimate relaxation, and personal trainers and tennis couches are available at an additional cost. Golf enthusiasts can satisfy their needs on the island’s nine-hole, par-three golf course, which takes in the varied and dramatic landscape and is the only course in an 60km radius.

Your group has full access to the island’s boats, equipment and water sports toys. These include crewed motorboats for fishing, scuba diving, snorkelling and excursions to nearby islands; crewed sailing yachts including 28ft day sailor Windsong, a 19ft Rhodes day sailor, and Lasers. The island’s watersports outfit also includes four jet-skis, underwater Seabob sea scooters and a range of inflatable towables, kitesurfing, windsurfing, paddleboarding, kayaking, wakeboarding, waterskiing, scuba diving and snorkelling. Best time to travel
The Bahamas is a year-round destination. Enjoying over 320 days of sunshine a year, average temperatures rarely fall below 25°C. Water temperatures are between 26°C and 28°C. During the hurricane season (end of July to mid-October), weather can be changeable.

Yacht | Tenacious
Guests can combine their visit to Over Yonder Cay with an extended trip around the Exumas or beyond aboard the gorgeous 114-foot mega-sailing yacht Tenacious, subject to the vessels’ sailing schedules and availability.

The yacht underwent a major refit in 2012, and sports a new rig and on-deck configuration. With Ted Hood Design’s revolutionary “whale bottom” hull, Tenacious is spacious, yet also able to cruise in very shallow waters thanks to her shoal draft. This allows her to anchor in secluded areas that are inaccessible to many larger vessels.

How to get there
Even though Over Yonder Cay feels like it’s located in one of the most remote corners of the world, it is actually just 200 miles from Florida—and even closer to some of the more populated parts of the Bahamas – which provides a variety of options for reaching the island. Guests may arrive directly from Miami or Fort Lauderdale on one of the island’s two 10-passenger Cessna Grand Caravan seaplanes. Commercial airports near Over Yonder Cay include Staniel Cay, which has a 3,000-foot paved airstrip and is only a 10-minute boat ride from the island, or Georgetown, which has an 8,000-foot runway capable of handling large private jets, and can be reached in just 30 minutes by seaplane. For guests arriving by yacht, Over Yonder Cay can accommodate larger vessels than any other private island in the Bahamas. The island’s ultra-modern deep-water marina is equipped to handle multiple yachts of up to 10 feet of draft.

The MusicMachine confidently brings the innovative Swiss laboratory into new territory. While the spaceship-styled MusicMachine may not tell time and can’t be worn, the tabletop music box does play six beautiful and eclectic tunes.

The MusicMachine’s dual propellers are turned to wind up it up. The twin silver cylinders sit atop a fuselage, which extends to slender outrigger “landing gear.”

Standing up to the superlative level of design MB&F is known for, each detail on the MusicMachine is both functional and elegant. The wood lacquered body stands to absorb vibrations while the aluminum legs distribute any movement away from the body to eliminate any chance of noise. Eng. Mubarak Saad al Ahbabi assembled a world-class team which he personally directed in all areas of the development of this sophisticated project for the Middle-Eastern billionaire owner. Under his leadership the original concept of the yacht was developed starting with the overall requirements with regards to general layout, size and performance and exterior style.

Lurssen, the German mega-yacht company that’s building the yacht, declined any comment on the boat or its owners. Despite its size, Azzam has remained a closely kept secret in the yachting world. Lurssen is known for its near obsessive discretion.

Azzam least six stories tall, with sweeping windows on the rear deck and several upper decks dedicated to staterooms. The vessel cost more than $500 million to build. Industry executives and marine engineers say Azzam’s most unusual feature — other than its size — is its propulsion system. Rather than being powered by propellers like most yachts, it will have four giant water jets that will be able to push the ship to speeds of more than 27 to 30 knots.

Amongst many other features the yacht has a main salon with a lengths of 29 m and a beam of 18m with an open plan and no pillars. She will travel in excess of 30 knots, powered by a combination of 2 gas turbines and 2 diesel engines with a total of 94000 horse powers.

The interior decoration was undertaken by the renowned French designer Christophe Leoni who is proud to have been able to realize a sophisticated and luxurious interior in a turn of the century Empire style. “Though Yachting is not my main area of business, I thoroughly enjoyed the cooperation with Nauta and Lürssen and am confident that the final yacht is everything and more the owner expects.” he said.

“We’ve never seen a yacht close to this size with water jets,” said one marine engineer. “This will be a very fast boat.”

The new craft’s owner has become the subject of widespread speculation. Yet industry executives say the owner is a member of one of the royal families in the Middle East. The Middle East is striving to become a global yachting center, with a growing number of yacht shows and mega-yacht marinas. Taking the title of world’s largest yacht from Russia would further boost its image.

It’s unclear whether Azzam — which means “determination” in Arabic — will have some of the aggressive security systems or secret submarines of many of today’s Russian yachts.

Yet Azzam already ups the ante in the mega-yacht arms race. There is no other yacht currently under construction that would top Azzam, according to industry executives. Roman Abramovich has comfortably held the title since 2010. By most measures, Larry Ellison claimed the title in 2004, with his 454-foot yacht, Rising Sun, which in turn had topped the 414-foot Octopus, owned by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen.

Today, Rising Sun is only the 9th largest yacht in the world and is now owned by David Geffen. Larry Ellison recently took delivery of a smaller yacht, at around 250 feet.

As the battle for the largest-yacht title rages, the broader yacht market remains weak. Yacht experts say there are dozens of yachts larger than 250 feet for sale around the world, yet buyers are scarce.

“There are too many boats and only a handful of people who are willing and able to buy right now,” said one executive. “Azzam is not a sign that the industry is stronger or that wealth is growing again. It’s a sign that the world is still buying a lot of oil from the Middle East.”
